So there's 30 seconds left of Q3 and Leclerc is holding pole position, knowing the big guns are on their final lap . He's driving for a Ferrari team starved of success, desperate for a Grand Prix victory, well aware that pole position on a Monaco track, that is notoriously difficult to overtake on, will mean an almost certain victory tomorrow. A mangled car would be a small price to pay wouldn't it? 🤔.

It was just a thought Davie, albeit a cynical one admittedly.
By the look on Max’s face, shortly afterwards, I’d guess it crossed his mind also.

It's a thought that's been floating about, even valtteri's engineer said it was convenient, but that kinda of crash and if it fecks the gear box that's a 5 place penalty too much risk. Plus leclerc has a tendency to lapse in concentration a bit.

Wasn’t Nico Rosberg accused of doing something similar several seasons ago. He didn’t crash his car though, l seem to remember he just drove it into a place that made it impossible for Q3 to continue. I can’t remember which circuit it was, but it did assure him of pole.
Do you know if they’re going to penalize Leclerc?

Yea nico did the difference between his a Charles is the risk of the penalty I can't see how risking pole with the accident is worth it, it's completely backwards thinking and if Ferrari have thought that then binoto needs sacked.

Interesting stuff Davie, I must admit it makes a refreshing change coming on here. Don’t know if I’ll watch the race tomorrow, Monaco is usually a dull affair, perhaps it’ll rain and make it more interesting.

Surely that was accidental. That was a pretty hard crash. No way was that planned. I don't think anyone other than Max could have bettered the time in any case.

What really appalled me was the way Verstappen got out of his car and just walked away, without even checking to see if Lewis was ok. I remember when the roles were reversed and Verstappen crashed into the barriers, that Hamilton did have the decency to ask on the team radio, shortly after the crash, if Max was ok.
{Ed001's Note - good point. Max comes across more and more like his prick of a dad each day to be honest. Much better driver, but he is dropping to his level as a person.}

Lando seems to be going from strength to strength.
I expect having a rich father has helped him on his way but there’s no doubting his talents, so best of luck to him.

Another impressive performance from Norris as well. At one point he was 12th but worked his way brilliantly up to 5th.
{Ed001's Note - I was surprised they left him out so long, it was looking like a mistake when they did it, but turned out to be a brilliant decision.}

Crazy end to the race Ed. Maybe it was just fatigue with Hamilton, making an error like that. Always easy in hindsight but why take the risk when 2nd place would have put him ahead of Max in the standings.
{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, he didn't look to be taking a risk, he looked to have it under control and braked in plenty of time. The car just didn't slow down.}
