Thoughts on the race yesterday?
I thought it was good. Really good from Checo. Merc looked too fast on this track. Amateur hour from them strategy wise though.

{Ed001's Note - it was ok, but needed the conditions to alter significantly to stop everyone just holding on and waiting.}

Right lads. With Alfa seat now vacant who do we see getting it?
Money seems to be on Bottas. I would however love to see somebody from lower series to make the step up. Surely the Redbull juniors can't be going to Alfa.
Maybe they should go with Pourchaire or Zhou.
Maybe Shwartzmann.

{Ed001's Note - I think Bottas as well.}

So Kimi is calling it a day. Man was he the most unintentionally entertaining guy. Absolute legend for me. The Mclaren Kimi was an absolute beast. Wish we could see that Kimi once more.

{Ed001's Note - I was gutted when I read that, his radio convos are legend.}

Absolutely mate. Poor man could never get his drink😂.
This feels like the beginning of the end of one of the greatest eras in f1 in terms of drivers (this is the only era that I've watched) . Very soon its going be Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel. Would feel wrong without them on the grid.

{Ed001's Note - time moves on though mate, I bet people said the same about the likes of Hunt at one time.}

Good race after the incident. Great to see Ocon and Vettel up there. Alonso though, definitely prevented Hamilton attacking the front 2. I say Alonso in a top car is still top 3 driver in the grid.

truered2

{Ed001's Note - that was good racing, but I fail to see a difference in what Alonso did to what Hamilton did last time, other than Hamilton had the sense to avoid him, whereas Verstappen just drove into him. Both should have just been left as racing incidents, it is what the sport is about to me.}

Im not so sure we can compare. Different tracks with different characteristics. Different points in the race. Max has has grown up a lot in the last few years. But he is still only 23. Lewis was also very aggressive and 100% earlier in his career. With more experience, Max would learn when to back off, when to not back off. Right now, in his mind driving is giving it absolutely everything every time in a battle no backing down. Might be his downfall this season.

{Ed001's Note - I am not having a go at Max for it, I have no problem with what happened, it was racing. Just that I am saying it is harsh to penalise Hamilton for that when it was so similar and nothing will be done to Alonso. After all the whining Red Bull did, it was clear Alonso deliberately cut Hamilton off, whereas Hamilton looked to back out of his move, so why penalise him? It should be just get on with it and let us enjoy them racing wheel to wheel, accepting that sometimes there will be a crash.}

How bad can Bottas be that bad in the rain. Destroyed what should have been a fantastic race in wet. gutted for Leclerc and Checo.

Well, clearly everyone here loves Hamilton and rightly so, drove a fantastic race yesterday. I would however say that the penalty is justified. Seb got his 2nd place taken away because of FIA not being able to extract the exact amount of fuel. So if the drs failed the test the penalty was justified for Lewis.
I agree however, max should have been penalised.
Im tired of the Mercedes dominance, I would rather Max win it, he has been incredible in most of the races. I wouldn't begrudge Hamilton the win this season though as he's been pushed to the limit.

The rain was a shame. It made it exciting, but that podium doesn't look right for the 40+ laps performance from the drivers that lost out. Lewis, Lando and Checo were brilliant today. It should have been that.
Bottas was absooutely nowhere the entire race and lucks into 5th after such a poor performance.
Hope Checo's luck changes soon. Confidence must be down with all the bad quali performances.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, particularly on Bottas, who deserved nothing again.}

Not defending Max, but he did have a look and saw Lewis was trying to reverse out. So maybe he assumed he was fine.

truered2

{Ed001's Note - fair point.}

Absolutely. The difference between sprint and the main race for the Mercs was huge. Whatever they did overnight has worked beautifully.

Brilliant drive by Danny and Lando.
Love it. Bottas drove well today. Cut through the field. Proved me wrong. Checo did well to hold off Bottas, otherwise I think he could have got to P2 with that Merc rocketship in Monza. Checo is not really doing though last few races though. Hopefully his luck changes.

truered2

{Ed001's Note - strange the difference in the Mercs today. Yesterday Hamilton couldn't overtake because the harvesting was being done at max revs and slowed the car when it needed to go faster. Today they were suddenly able to go flat out. They must have altered the harvest period over night. Just odd that they were able to do that but didn't think to do it before the sprint race.}
