Anyone think Bottas having to change his power unit and start from the back of the sprint race is Mercedes punishing him for trying to get the fastest lap last time out? It does seem a huge coincidence and it, of course, puts Hamilton pole. Just seems like them sticking the middle finger back up to him for disobeying instructions.
1.) 11 Sep 2021 16:04:19
Possibly Ed 1 but its just backfired on them.
{Ed001's Note - it was such a crap sprint race. I nearly nodded off. What a waste of time.}
2.) 11 Sep 2021 16:09:42
Have to agree there no better than the one at Silverstone. Maybe they should do 1 lap on electric scooters instead.
{Ed001's Note - the format isn't working as the tyres just don't have time to go off, so there is no chance to try and use a strategy.}
3.) 11 Sep 2021 16:25:32
Maybe they could add another DRS but they said on commentary the systems won't allow to happen. Also could they just use scrubbed tyre's that won't last. Not to sure what will help other than scrap the thing altogether.
{Ed001's Note - the DRS doesn't really work there anyway. Tyres is the only thing that seems to bring any kind of racing in, but that shouldn't be needed for a race to take place.}
4.) 11 Sep 2021 16:48:57
Maybe next year with the re-design of the cars, will hopefully make a difference. Although i woild think after a few races Merc and Red Bull will just pull away from rest. let's hope Russell is better than Bottas or Perez has been this season.
{Ed001's Note - Russell is clearly better than Bottas, but whether that is enough to challenge Hamilton or not is the big question.}
5.) 11 Sep 2021 17:04:21
Agreed Ed. Do you think Hamilton will sign again after his current deal runs out. If not let's hope Russell can stay with Verstappen, otherwise it might go back to the Schumacher years which i stopped watching until Hamilton came along.
{Ed001's Note - that is a good question, hard to tell with Hamilton as he has nothing left to really aim for. The only thing that will keep him going is if the racing is good I think. Top sportspeople thrive on competition.}
6.) 11 Sep 2021 18:34:53
The sprint races are far better than fp3 lol.
{Ed001's Note - it is hard to understand how F1 was allowed to fall so far that every moment of running in practice is not vital for improving set up.}
7.) 12 Sep 2021 05:51:31
The sprint was boring no doubt. Hopefully with next years cars, and possible sprints being single separate events, it would improve.
Its seems only pit stops and tyre strategy will make monza interesting. Seems really difficult to overtake.
Re: Bottas, i don't think they would punish him for trying fastest lap. It would only disadvantage them wouldn't it? He's not really very good on sundays when he gets stuck in midfield, so it would be useless for WCC.
{Ed001's Note - that's a good point.}
8.) 12 Sep 2021 09:43:10
The pu was tactical take the hit, get pole in qualy, let Hamilton through during the sprint, block verstappen, then Hamilton threw those plans out the window.
{Ed001's Note - that seems the most likely.}

I really have no idea what to say about that race. Apart from the annoyance of the channel I was watching it on constantly losing signal and missing some of the best bits, it was just insane. How does Hamilton end up last when he had it? And Vettel coming 2nd?
One thing that did stand out for me is how slow race control were to react to the two crashes. Immediately they happened it was blatantly obvious it needed to be a safety car immediately, yet they took ages to put out the safety car both times. What on earth was the hold up? It was the two clearest and most obvious safety cars I have ever seen.
1.) 06 Jun 2021 19:47:56
Crazy end to the race Ed. Maybe it was just fatigue with Hamilton, making an error like that. Always easy in hindsight but why take the risk when 2nd place would have put him ahead of Max in the standings.
{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, he didn't look to be taking a risk, he looked to have it under control and braked in plenty of time. The car just didn't slow down.}
2.) 06 Jun 2021 19:53:24
Those crashes mate, phew. At 300kph, i'm just glad both came out unscathed.
It's the most disappointing for Max though. He ran a perfect race up until tyre decided to blow up.
The podium was super though. Checo coming into his own, holding of Hamilton for so long. amazing drive. Great to see Seb so happy too.
{Ed001's Note - they were proper crashes them! So good to see both drivers completely unscathed afterwards.}
3.) 06 Jun 2021 22:53:32
That race was everything I had hoped for in Baku! , Hamilton accidentally hitting the "magic" button was absolutely unexpected.
{Ed001's Note - it is so rare he makes a mistake, it really is a genuine shock when it happens.}
01 May 2021 15:09:07
Interesting that Stroll has a newer spec Aston than Vettel. Like Vettel needs any more of a disadvantage when he is already struggling so badly!
1.) 01 May 2021 15:20:54
Clearly didn't hold him back in Q1 though.
2.) 01 May 2021 17:01:09
Good to see Vettel doing well mate. Stroll's updates to his car seems to have not made any difference.
Unlucky from Verstappen, missing poles in two consecutive races due to mistakes.
All the drivers seem to be struggling in today. Weird qualifying today.
{Ed001's Note - it was windy and kept changing direction. Depending on the way it was blowing it affected them badly. That's why it's hard to tell with Stroll, he might have just got his run in against the wind. I think Verstappen got caught in a headwind on the straight, which is why he was complaining about a lack of pace, and that is what cost him a chance at pole. That is certainly why most of the final runs were slower.}
3.) 01 May 2021 17:27:07
Yup, winds seemed to be huge factor today. Shoutout to Russell though, great performance today.
I'm predicting tough race tomorrow if the conditions remain same. Ver, Ham, Per in the podium tomorrow not in any specific order. Bottas will eventually screw up his race, somehow always does. Never converts his quali poles.
{Ed001's Note - be interesting to see if the Mercs actually are the quicker car on this track or if it was just they coped better with the wind.}

that is the problem mate, they could easily have red flagged so that the race could have been a real race. But they wouldn't have got the result they wanted that way, as Hamilton was clearly faster and would have just driven away from him again.
13 Nov 2021 17:34:21
Only from the qualifying session.
01 May 2021 15:20:54
Clearly didn't hold him back in Q1 though.
24 Jun 2018 19:32:57
The way he drove today makes it look like he has had enough and wants out.

What I am trying to say is, you don't change motorbikes because they are dangerous, it is part of the sport. You know it is a risk when you get on one. The same thing applies with open cockpit open wheel racing. If you don't want to take the risk go into saloon cars.
