Morning ED,
I have a feeling this page will be a nice get away from the ESL drama today.

Another enjoyable race and although we saw a good fight back thorough the pack from Lewis I'm slightly disappointed we didn't get to see max / Lewis wheel to wheel racing in tricky conditions instead, would of been a spectacle, edge of your seat stuff.

Do you think Russell had a point after? Bottas shouldn't of jinked to put him off? I'm on the fence as a lot of racers would of done the same I'm sure but it was incredibly dangerous given the conditions.

{Ed001's Note - I agree with you totally on the Hamilton/Verstappen thing. Though it was really the long pit stop which ended that and then he was trying too hard to make up the lost ground. Shame but it does increase the tension ahead of the next race.

I am torn on the Russell/Bottas battle. I can certainly see his point, Bottas does jink but there was still just enough space there. However, I don't get why it seems that Toto Wolff is heaping all the blame on Russell for trying an overtake there on the damp. Plenty of safe overtakes had taken place there, no one else jinked and put anybody on the grass though. So why is it Russell's fault for actually doing his job and racing? Surely the fault lies with Bottas for being so incredibly slow (and bad at his job) that he was in a position to be overtaken by a Williams? That is if anyone is to blame. Then to stick up the middle finger to Russell when he came over to speak to him is just being a dick for the sake of it. Personally, if I was Wolff or Williams, I would be disappointed in Russell if he had not tried to pass, it is what he is paid to do after all. The questions should all be asked of Bottas for being in a position to be overtaken and then jinking on the fastest part of the course. So yes, I do think Russell has a point, but, on balance, I think he has to accept he did make a mistake and panic because of who it was and believed Bottas was going to deliberately drive him off the road as they are rivals. Clearly not friendly rivals either.}

I do think the war is all in Russell's head
Yes he's coming for that seat, but does he honestly think valtteri cares? He's in selfish mode as he's said before and is focusing on his own failings like being overtaken by a Williams, doesn't matter that it's Russell if it was latifi he'd be equally ashamed.

I wouldn't blame Bottas, I don't think any driver would deliberately push another person off road out of spite. I think that last about Bottas driving differently if it was another driver is all in Russell's head.
What we certainly know is he did leave enough space, slight movement from Bottas hot Russell spooked and made a mistake.
What I'm wondering is would Hamilton or Verstappen or prime Alonso go for that overtake in those wet conditions? Would they have pulled out and waited for the next lap?
I think in the wet the risk far outweighed the reward.
Then again no matter what the condition Mercedes should not be battling Williams for 9th.

{Ed001's Note - the whole race was wet and every overtake happened there. I think the whole issue is Russell got spooked but he should 100% go for the pass or not bother racing.

What I most have a problem with is the guy running Mercedes telling a Williams driver that he should not overtake a Mercedes and the Williams driver saying 'yeah sorry boss my fault won't happen again'. Talk about massive conflict of interest.}

I didn't know Russell apologised. Probably has to tow the line considering Toto is the one who decides his future with Mercedes.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. That shouldn't be happening as it means next time he will meekly follow even if there is an overtake there, rather than end up risking his career.}
