{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Formula 1: Qatar Talking Points

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2021 16:12:59
Everybody is really excited about this close title race and it is great to see. But I have one massive problem with it being so tight.

Let's say Max wins by less than 5 points.

Now I know you can point to specific instances all through a season to say it was won here or there and that's racing. But this season there appears to be something I still can't come to terms with.

Belgium.

When 1/2 points where awarded for a race that never happened. A result entirely manufactured by the FIA for their own purposes. Racing that day was never, ever a realistic option.

Maybe it's just me but it's been bothering me.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2021 11:47:43
Pleasing that we are heading for a down to the wire title fight but what a moral mess F1 is in.

I hate these late pens / reviews effecting the results days later but it's even worse when the wrong decision is made and the drivers all (bar 1) are left with questions.

The drivers pre race conference debacle should be enough to show masi is not the right man for the job. How can you enter a race weekend with so much confusion, that's his job to define the black and white and he has clearly failed.

On the actual decision, Suggesting the new onboard footage wasn't significant was laughable, I get not wanting to create a precedent for this kind of thing but just say that, say it was stewards choice end of, don't make this rubbish statements up like not significant when everyone can see it is. Laughable

The actual race itself turned out to be more or less a procession, a late VSC robbing us of any late entertainment.

End on a positive, great to see alonso on podium again. As big of a moaner as he was he is also a great driver

{Ed001's Note - personally I can't stick Alonso, he is tiresome with his whinging, I would much rather have seen Vettel of the ex-champs on the grid get that place.

Totally agree on the reviews, it was clear at the time that the wrong decision was made by the stewards, no one needed the onboard footage. But, once they had that, it had to be a simple case of giving a time penalty, just don't give enough to affect the result and be done with it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Nov 2021 13:07:16
Well, that is it for Max. Karma catches up I guess! Bottas was mature about it, accepting it in good fate, as opposed to Max saying it wasn't his fault. whose fault was it then?
Red bull just seems nervous about the run in and would whine about anything these days. Get on with it!

{Ed001's Note - it was obviously Mercedes that did it, never Max.}

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Nov 2021 12:59:28
Here is hoping for a good race. Hope No. 44 smashes it. Great pace all weekend

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Nov 2021 13:52:12
Hi Ed just seeing Mr Horner moaning about the Mercs. I hope they are going to test all cars with this flexible rear wing test. But i suppose that's why there trying to fix there own cars before the test. Funny how Red Bulls problem doesn't help them, although if you run wide by turning late that's ok. Masi may have made a few problems for himself for the next few races.

{Ed001's Note - let's be honest, Red Bull are moaning purely because Mercs are now using the same cheat they have been using all season. Just get on with it and let the FIA look after that side of things.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 18:36:19
Well Done Lewis 2 Fingers up to the STEWARDS

{Ed001's Note - defo mate, they did everything they could to stop him this weekend.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 18:39:55
They certainly did .
Black and White Flag for verstappen when he's going to do nothing oh and the 50,000 fine peanuts. let's hope the last 3 races are hot races for the Mercs.

{Ed001's Note - yeah the black and white flag after he had been overtaken, rather than before when it happened and a pointless fine that is just chump change for him.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 18:45:19
Exactly Ed's i think Bottas might play a bigger part in this. Perez only there for the fastest lap. This needs to change it should be for pole position.

{Ed001's Note - interesting to hear the crowd on his side for a change, he will get a lot of support in the Middle East I would expect too. I am not sure Bottas has the pace to do much to be honest.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 18:50:07
Really happy for Lewis today as he showed just how good he is. I don't get why he attracts so much hate, or maybe sadly I do. When I was a kid Ayrton Senna was God but Hamilton is the only driver I have seen I could put up at that level.

{Ed001's Note - it is good to hear him finally being appreciated. He gets far too much stick for things that are nothing to do with racing.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 19:11:09
Exactly Ed and Oakbark I hate to say it Black and British. Trying to stop him equalling Shumacher's record and then bettering it. Long may He keep winning still the fastest guy on the grid.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is far more about the former and breaking the Merc dominance.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 20:09:47
If he was French and in the Ferrari not a problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2021 03:48:04
I'm falling in love with F1 all over again! What's everyone's opinion about the stewards decision on the incident between Max and Sir? I'm I alone in feeling there is an agenda against Hamilton?

{Ed001's Note - it feels clear there is, a broken part does not normally lead to disqualification, being pushed off the track usually leads to a penalty but Hamilton is now the target.}

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2021 07:15:19
There’s also the slyness element to what happened in Brazil. Max and Horner have both admitted they are suspicious of that Merc and after the race yesterday Horner suggested a challenge to the FIA would come about that rear wing and that Max had felt a difference.

So it wasn’t just a breach of parc ferme rules it was a blatant attempt to learn more about the Merc rear wing to challenge its validity.

That just doesn’t sit well with me as “sporting”.

As for the turn 4 incident it’s at least a five second penalty all day every day. Max deliberately brakes late to run Lewis wide. He never made the corner, forced Lewis off, kept the position and it was only Lewis that avoided the contact being made.

The real insult isn't the non penalty it’s the fact that they never even investigated it!

And where’s the Max onboard? Surely they could have said to be investigated after the race and waiting for the footage to be downloaded from the car if they didn’t have it to hand at the time.

{Ed001's Note - very good point Wassa, I agree with all you have said here.}

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2021 17:48:23
Well, clearly everyone here loves Hamilton and rightly so, drove a fantastic race yesterday. I would however say that the penalty is justified. Seb got his 2nd place taken away because of FIA not being able to extract the exact amount of fuel. So if the drs failed the test the penalty was justified for Lewis.
I agree however, max should have been penalised.
Im tired of the Mercedes dominance, I would rather Max win it, he has been incredible in most of the races. I wouldn't begrudge Hamilton the win this season though as he's been pushed to the limit.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 17:25:34
So.Hamilton disqualified

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 17:34:21
Only from the qualifying session.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 17:57:28
True but means he starts p20 for the sprint and where ever ends up -5 due to engine penalty.
Merc better get their pit strategy right lol

{Ed001's Note - interesting that Max got no penalty though, despite his breach of Parc ferme rules. Well 50k is like a penny to you and me.}

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 18:27:37
Seeings as its not a race incident, he couldn't have his race impeded I have seen

{Ed001's Note - nor is an engine change. They are both technical infringements.}

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 21:59:27
Maxs was a sporting infringement that's the difference I believe

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Nov 2021 23:00:40
Apparently of 0.2mm on one side and Red Bull can notice this. Seems like someone has said something.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2021 18:30:18
Hamilton when at is best is a sight to behold

{Ed001's Note - I can't believe how much Max gets away with. It is clear that F1 is looking to break up the Mercedes domination to increase viewing figures.}

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Oct 2021 11:57:04
Thoughts on the race yesterday?
I thought it was good. Really good from Checo. Merc looked too fast on this track. Amateur hour from them strategy wise though.

{Ed001's Note - it was ok, but needed the conditions to alter significantly to stop everyone just holding on and waiting.}

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Sep 2021 14:28:52
Come on Lando this is going to be close.

{Ed001's Note - such a shame.}

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Sep 2021 14:49:15
The rain was a shame. It made it exciting, but that podium doesn't look right for the 40+ laps performance from the drivers that lost out. Lewis, Lando and Checo were brilliant today. It should have been that.
Bottas was absooutely nowhere the entire race and lucks into 5th after such a poor performance.
Hope Checo's luck changes soon. Confidence must be down with all the bad quali performances.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, particularly on Bottas, who deserved nothing again.}

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Sep 2021 15:13:19
Is bottas little more than a fast moving chicane?

Truly awful in wheel you wheel racing.

{Ed001's Note - he is embarrassing. You know full well that if Russell was behind the wheel of that car he would not have let Max saunter past without a fight.}

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2021 14:23:00
Delighted for Daniel and Lando. Gutted for Lewis as I think he was on for the win after Max's slow stop. got to say thou Horner does my nut in if it was the other way around he'd be calling for a race ban. I get Max is incredibly talented but he really needs to stop blaming everyone else for every little thing it just smacks of desperation. Hoping for at least one more Hamilton championship before Russell reigns supreme.

{Ed001's Note - I agree with you completely on there up till the one more Hamilton championship. I would love it if Max got so caught up with taking out Lewis that Lando was able to nick the title!}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2021 07:02:00
What really appalled me was the way Verstappen got out of his car and just walked away, without even checking to see if Lewis was ok. I remember when the roles were reversed and Verstappen crashed into the barriers, that Hamilton did have the decency to ask on the team radio, shortly after the crash, if Max was ok.

{Ed001's Note - good point. Max comes across more and more like his prick of a dad each day to be honest. Much better driver, but he is dropping to his level as a person.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2021 07:37:08
Not defending Max, but he did have a look and saw Lewis was trying to reverse out. So maybe he assumed he was fine.

{Ed001's Note - fair point.}

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2021 10:05:26
To bad Seb wasn’t stopped he’d probably have tried to lift Max’s car off him lol.

{Ed001's Note - that would have been funny, so long as they didn't touch Hamilton's car would he have been able to restart? Only they have rules about outside assistance, ie push starts etc.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 21:28:10
As you can no doubts imagine, I'm happy as lando. I mean Larry right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 14:47:41
Well Ed what do you make of that then.
Looking good for Mclaren podium.

{Ed001's Note - stupid or deliberate by Max imo. He didn't need to do that, he could have backed out and got him on the next straight. There was no way he could expect Hamilton to leave a gap when he didn't earlier on.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 14:55:23
Great pass by Lando totally agree on that amazing that Brundle doesn't see ir that way. I supppse that's the SLY way.

{Ed001's Note - that was incredible by Lando!! Brilliant move, even the deliberate widening of turn 11 to put himself into position.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 15:26:53
Well done Mclaren boy's.

{Ed001's Note - let's hope they hold on and there are no issues with either car!}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 15:54:57
Brilliant drive by Danny and Lando.
Love it. Bottas drove well today. Cut through the field. Proved me wrong. Checo did well to hold off Bottas, otherwise I think he could have got to P2 with that Merc rocketship in Monza. Checo is not really doing though last few races though. Hopefully his luck changes.

{Ed001's Note - strange the difference in the Mercs today. Yesterday Hamilton couldn't overtake because the harvesting was being done at max revs and slowed the car when it needed to go faster. Today they were suddenly able to go flat out. They must have altered the harvest period over night. Just odd that they were able to do that but didn't think to do it before the sprint race.}

Absolutely. The difference between sprint and the main race for the Mercs was huge. Whatever they did overnight has worked beautifully.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 21:20:53
Well done to lando for keeping Hamilton at bay.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 05:54:40
Lando is maturing to be a very good driver mate. I rate him higher than Russell currently with the progress he's made. Russell stuck in that williams has stagnated i feel. Hopefully being in the merc next year we will see the real Russell.
On a side note, i'm chuffed for Danny Ric. He nailed the start yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 07:48:13
Anyone think Bottas having to change his power unit and start from the back of the sprint race is Mercedes punishing him for trying to get the fastest lap last time out? It does seem a huge coincidence and it, of course, puts Hamilton pole. Just seems like them sticking the middle finger back up to him for disobeying instructions.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 16:04:19
Possibly Ed 1 but its just backfired on them.

{Ed001's Note - it was such a crap sprint race. I nearly nodded off. What a waste of time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 16:09:42
Have to agree there no better than the one at Silverstone. Maybe they should do 1 lap on electric scooters instead.

{Ed001's Note - the format isn't working as the tyres just don't have time to go off, so there is no chance to try and use a strategy.}

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 16:25:32
Maybe they could add another DRS but they said on commentary the systems won't allow to happen. Also could they just use scrubbed tyre's that won't last. Not to sure what will help other than scrap the thing altogether.

{Ed001's Note - the DRS doesn't really work there anyway. Tyres is the only thing that seems to bring any kind of racing in, but that shouldn't be needed for a race to take place.}

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 16:48:57
Maybe next year with the re-design of the cars, will hopefully make a difference. Although i woild think after a few races Merc and Red Bull will just pull away from rest. let's hope Russell is better than Bottas or Perez has been this season.

{Ed001's Note - Russell is clearly better than Bottas, but whether that is enough to challenge Hamilton or not is the big question.}

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 17:04:21
Agreed Ed. Do you think Hamilton will sign again after his current deal runs out. If not let's hope Russell can stay with Verstappen, otherwise it might go back to the Schumacher years which i stopped watching until Hamilton came along.

{Ed001's Note - that is a good question, hard to tell with Hamilton as he has nothing left to really aim for. The only thing that will keep him going is if the racing is good I think. Top sportspeople thrive on competition.}

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2021 18:34:53
The sprint races are far better than fp3 lol.

{Ed001's Note - it is hard to understand how F1 was allowed to fall so far that every moment of running in practice is not vital for improving set up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 05:51:31
The sprint was boring no doubt. Hopefully with next years cars, and possible sprints being single separate events, it would improve.
Its seems only pit stops and tyre strategy will make monza interesting. Seems really difficult to overtake.
Re: Bottas, i don't think they would punish him for trying fastest lap. It would only disadvantage them wouldn't it? He's not really very good on sundays when he gets stuck in midfield, so it would be useless for WCC.

{Ed001's Note - that's a good point.}

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Sep 2021 09:43:10
The pu was tactical take the hit, get pole in qualy, let Hamilton through during the sprint, block verstappen, then Hamilton threw those plans out the window.

{Ed001's Note - that seems the most likely.}

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2021 11:39:49
Time for my favourite race of the year. the temple of speed!

{Ed001's Note - at least here there is no excuse for a lack of overtaking!}

10 Sep 2021 11:49:44
Fantastic place for a sprint race.

{Ed001's Note - oh yeah, good point, that should be good.}

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2021 11:58:39
I do miss old monza but the new one is still exciting.

{Ed001's Note - I can't remember it before to be honest.}

10 Sep 2021 13:18:44
Remember the movie grand prix?

{Ed001's Note - was that Sly Stallone?}

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2021 13:25:57
Before his time was 1966, Before my time i'm 33.

10 Sep 2021 14:11:12

Canal + strike again with the albon news.
Reporting that guanyu Zhou for alfa romeo.

{Ed001's Note - I wonder how they have suddenly got all this info? Someone must be leaking to them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Sep 2021 18:04:52
It's really amazing just how much they know, and has to be someone leaking.
According to them Zhou would bring €30m in sponsorship money.

{Ed001's Note - I wonder if that is as important now that the sport is being cost-controlled? If not, we might see a lot less pay drivers or maybe a new team that can afford to run due to a pair of pay drivers?}

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Sep 2021 18:49:41
I think with the budget dropping to £135m and if someone can bring in 30m then it would certainly help a lesser team stay in the game.

{Ed001's Note - two of them and you are nearly halfway there.}

Well thays the worst kept secret in f1 coming true then
George to merc announcement tomorrow according to canal+ who broke the valterri news last week and confirmed last night it was being announced today.

{Ed001's Note - do you think that had any bearing on Bottas getting the fastest lap after being asked to abort it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Sep 2021 18:27:39
If so the rest of the seasons going to be hilarious.

{Ed001's Note - well it would be if Bottas was any real threat to Hamilton in terms of skill. I mean the way he went out and absolutely destroyed the time Bottas had put in just shows the difference in quality between them.}
