ed001, what do you make of Vettles move to Aston/ racing point?

He is obviously a bigger name then perez, but the way he has been treated, being axed by text is a bit sour for me. Perez has done well in the merc of last year and deserved better imo. Obviously Stroll is safe as houses with his dad as the owner and if he wasn't that lucky he would be the one to go.

Plus vettle looks to have lost his mojo so I think I would of stuck with perez personally.

{Ed001's Note - it does look like a huge mistake. Though he might well rediscover his fire with the way he is being treated by Ferrari. That is their only hope really, is that he is driven by bitterness. Other than that, it looks a crazy decision. For both parties to be honest. Why would you want to join a team owned by the father of your teammate? He is clearly going to be favoured with better equipment and get the pick of the strategies etc.

It must be pointed out, Perez was only there initially because of the sponsorship he brings with him, which gave them money to go racing. So he was always likely to be pushed out of the door once they no longer needed that money.}

Didn’t know that about Perez, but it’s a shame he's leaving he’s doing wonders for my fantasy f1 team so hope it doesn’t effect him.

I think vettle has been broken by merc and Hamilton. I feel that Aston want him for the name and he’s gone as it’s the best offer he was going to get. I do think it’s destined for tears. And I can’t see them competing much higher up the grid then their current efforts.

As for Perez wonder where he will end up, potentially Indy which seems to be where a host of past f1 drivers end up.

{Ed001's Note - someone will take Perez as he brings good sponsorship. Good driver too, so he is not just a pay driver unlike some.}

I don't know where is available though ed001, I think it was only Haas and alfa that have space and he is better then that. Itll be a shape if he has to take a drop down the grid at the expense of vettle.

Hopefully vettle proves me wrong and he is a success. Personally I think he will be battling with Mclaren for the best of the rest behind red bull next season.

{Ed001's Note - both Ferrari-engined teams, which is a bit of a problem as that is the worst engine now they have blocked off the avenue for them to cheat. However with him being backed by Carlos Slim's billions, he could turn them into a competitive team.}

First time poster on here well the F1 anyway just fought Monza this weekend was a cracking race and with Ferrari struggling this season just to see McLaren racing point romeo Renault getting in top six most weeks an not to forget max verstappen challenging hamilton think it's better My that's my opinion what's others thoughs.

{Ed001's Note - it was a brilliant race, if a little harsh on Hamilton and Giovanazzi to get a 10 second stop and go.}

Hey Ed do you still do your after race talking points? Haven't seen them this season.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't been doing them, to be honest I forgot all about them! I will start again for the next race. Though you have to bear in mind I might miss a fair bit as the coverage I get is Arabic language. Makes it difficult sometimes to follow what is going on.}

Cool, thanks Ed! I enjoyed them 😊 look forward to hearing your take on the comedy gold that is ferrari! 😂.

{Ed001's Note - they really are full on slapstick right now!}

Hey Ed,

I'm sure you've read Vettel and Ferrari calling it quits at the end of the season. What do you think went wrong? Was it purely the fact that Ferrari didn't see him as the No.1 driver, even though they might have publicly said it?

Where do you think he's most likely to go now and who do you think is best placed to replace him? You think Ricciardo has a chance or driving for the Scuderia?

Many thanks!

{Ed001's Note - I think he just lost his passion for the sport. At one point he was driven by a desire to set records but now he has seen Hamilton overtake him and he just wasn't able to lift himself. When he tried to push harder, he kept making mistakes and the criticism took away his enjoyment of racing. He just doesn't want to face the abuse and criticism for something he really doesn't enjoy doing any more and has too much pride to settle for being second best.

Sainz has already been chosen to replace him next season.}

What do you think of Vettel leaving Ferrari and being replaced by Sainz? Bit gutted for McLaren, they had a good competitively pairing in Carlos Sainz and Chuck Calrissian.

So both Renaults have been booted out of the Japanese GP - losing them 9 points - due to their braking system being classed as a driving aid. Racing Point protested against the system being used and the FIA have upheld their protest. That might explain why they did so well!

Ed001: I agree with all your points regarding the Japanese Grand Prix.
I like to add one more point :
Ferrari, trying to get that single point for the fastest race lap while Leclerc was around 25 seconds ahead of Ricardo, pitted him and brought the gap to 5 seconds or something. And once the race was over they were left with 15 second penalty (which demoted him to 7th) and no fastest lap. So, I think Ferrari and Leclerc lost 2 points while trying to get 1. May be they should sent him after Sainz without going to pit stop. May be I'm being hard hung on them, as they wouldn't have known that they would be punished with 15 second penalty.

{Ed001's Note - I think they had the choice of either sitting tight and struggling on tyres or making a stop and going for the extra point while being safe on tyres. I am pretty sure they said his tyres were going.}

Ed001, What do you think about the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix? Last year, both Mercedes and Red bull dominated Ferrari. Do you think there would be any reversal in fortune for Ferrari?

{Ed001's Note - Ferrari look to be ahead of the rest now, but they still struggle in outright race pace. I can see it being a Ferrari front row and then the two scarlet cars spending the race being hounded by Mercs and Red Bull. I wouldn't be surprised to see McLaren hang on to their coat-tails either. With it being Honda's home circuit, it is likely they will have been burning the midnight oil to get their engine to its peak, so we might even get Toro Rosso on the back of it too. The only problem will be if anyone gets past the Ferraris, then they won't be able to conserve tyres and have to push to chase, which means the pace will be too hot for McLaren and Toro Rosso then.}

Ed001: As per predication, Ferrari had the pace and qualified for the front row. But, they are new methods to screw the race for each time : (.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair they both threw it away at the start, Leclerc just a little more brutally than Vettel.}

@Ed001: Do you think Ferrari sided with Leclerc and change their strategy to get him P1 after the Pit stop.
Ironically, that Vettel's MCU-K failure affected Leclerc Race too.

{Ed001's Note - yeah I am certain they did, Vettel was even telling them over the radio his rears were gone to try and get them to box him and they kept just fobbing him off.}

@Ed001: Will there be a review for the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix? I'm looking forward to it :)

{Ed001's Note - it is done, Singapore talking points, the links just haven't been done yet. I meant to put it up to get the review of the day auto links as I wasn't able to do a review of the day on Monday night, but missed the time cut off and so it never autolinked. @Ed001: Sorry, you faced issue after issue. Thanks for the points :)

{Ed001's Note - no worries it happens. It wouldn't have been so bad but we had to delay starting by 4 hours just to begin with, so I ended up finishing at gone 6am here. I was very ready to sleep at that point.

By the way, I have to take back what I said about Leclerc whining now, as I have heard his interview since and I understand his unhappiness. He was told to keep slowing the pack when Vettel went in and changed tyres and not told Vettel had done so. Vettel came out pushed like mad, while he was still being told to take it easy and that is why he lost the lead. Suddenly I can see why he is angry with the team.}

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Sep 2019 16:51:20
Agreed Ed.
Do you expect Ferrari to continue the form in Russia?

{Ed001's Note - yes. This is their true pace finally being achieved. They had the faster car but made errors initially in their upgrades and set up, which left them struggling to get speed out of the car. Now they have figured out where they went wrong and once more have the fastest car. The only issue they have left to sort out is tyre wear, as they do wear through their tyres much faster than the Mercs, so they are unable to push as hard in the race.}

RB tasted their own Strategy Medicine in Hungary. Hammer put a blinder of Last few laps while catching up Verstappen. Spa and Monza will give a clear picture of Honda engine's power in that RBs and whether the one trick pony Ferrari are real beasts in straight line. I am actually puzzled why gasly is under performing in the RB while Max is beating out even the Mercs!

{Ed001's Note - Honda have worked more on driveability I think, which is why it is so much better. Ferrari will do fine on Spa as their set up is about fast corners and straights. RB and Mercs might struggle as they are high downforce cars.}

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2019 11:33:11
Mercs will be ok I think in Spa. Mercs engine is as good as Ferrari in the straights. RB may struggle. Unless Ferrari bungle the strategy in race and decisions in Quali they can be favs to win in Spa. Expecting Kimi to do well also.
