Halos coming in in 2018. I understand the need for safety but the cars are just ugly these days.

{Ed001's Note - horrible idea. Why even bother with that? F1 used to be about speed and danger, that is what makes the glamour and excitement attached to the sport. If you want to be safe, don't drive fast, it really is that simple.}

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's meant to be dangerous, that's the appeal.

{Ed001's Note - it is like extreme sports, they are exciting because of the risk attached. They are sanitising it so much it may as well be radio controlled cars running round the track. Though the drivers would have more control over the car then!}

It's meant to be precise, and technical, and pushing things to the limits. Doesn't mean anything about taking enjoyment out of an event that allows the possible deaths of other human beings.

I'm fine with the Halo if it could potentially save a single life. Now, the engine sound and lack of passing chances are things that can be fixed, and should be. .there's still tons of danger to drivers even without the halo, but to place a person's life in greater risk bc of a small aesthetic dislike isn't something I'd want. WIsh there was a better solution at the moment, but clearly there isn't, hopefully they continue working on finding better answers. Just my opinion, you are all entitled to yours. Currently enjoying Japan. .what a track.

{Ed001's Note - that isn't the point. The point is Halo is a crap idea, it looks rubbish and does not really protect them properly as well as blocking part of their view. It should either be open or closed cockpit, not this half measure that achieves nothing bar making the cars uglier.}

What I am trying to say is, you don't change motorbikes because they are dangerous, it is part of the sport. You know it is a risk when you get on one. The same thing applies with open cockpit open wheel racing. If you don't want to take the risk go into saloon cars.

Happy to see Alonso have a bit of pace so far this weekend. The new power unit seems to be paying off, even with the grid penalties.

{Ed001's Note - it is good to see McLaren competitive I agree.}

Thought on the new rule changes? Hopefully makes it a bit more exciting. I'm still prefer the naturally aspirated cars of a couple of years ago.

Zaappp

{Ed001's Note - I just think the changes show a lack of understanding of the issues facing the sport. It needs more natural overtaking to create excitement, so they make it more difficult to overtake! Wider cars mean there is less space, leaving less opportunity to overtake. They need the cars to be smaller, creating an opportunity to take different lines through corners, as they will have more space. They are right with the bigger tires, as that will create more mechanical grip, but they increased downforce as well, which makes it more difficult to overtake.}

I think it's a step in the right direction. what's your opinion on the discussed financial cap that some teams would like introduced?

{Ed001's Note - I think it is something that has been needed for a while. Many manufacturers have said they would compete in the sport if there was a financial cap, so you would be likely to see more teams, which is a good thing imo.}

It was Bottas' to lose after that start. Rode his luck with the start but it paid off.

Zaappp

{Ed001's Note - to be fair he did well to hold on at the end. With his tires blistered, it would have been easy to push too hard and make a mistake.}

Such a better race. Personally I was happy to see both the Honda's get to the end of the race. Just read an interesting stat the says Red Bull have actually completed less GP laps then Honda Mclaren. Can't be a good sign. Ar tehy not waiting for a new power unit from Renault?

Zaappp

{Ed001's Note - they had new engine mapping in that race, which was supposedly a huge step forward. I don't think it is a new unit altogether, just upgrades to the existing one that they are expecting. Horner said they had not got more power with the mapping, but they are expecting a power increase soon.}

Apparently they're favouring Vettel also and Kimi Isn't too happy about that. It will be interesting to see what engine and other changes will come in in 2020 after the meeting the teams had. Red Bull saying they want a non manufacturer power unit option.

Zaappp

{Ed001's Note - there should always be options available in terms of power units and other parts to make it possible to build a midfield race car using off the shelf components. The cars should not have such a huge spread of quality, they should be much closer so that the driver makes more of a difference.

I can't see Kimi staying in F1 much longer.}

I'd like to see them keep experimenting until they get it right. Any opinions on what's going to happen with Torro Rosso/Red Bull? Carlos Sainz is on his way up, but who is going to leave Red Bull if they want to keep him? Maybe one of Ricciardo or Verstappen to Ferrari?

Zaappp

{Ed001's Note - it did look like that would happen in the summer. Verstappen and Ricciardo have a lot of friction between them, so I would expect one to move on at the end of the season. Ferrari looks the most likely, though Kimi always seems to raise his game when it looks like he will be going.}
